Exu greeting 03:42
I give homage. I have faith and ask permission to praise Exu in my home. I have faith. Amen. Our house is clean, protect our land. Exu the one who owns the road. My faith feeds me, I beg I beg. Exu, please be compassionate to us on our journey. Bring us wisdom, we praise you with the drum so you don’t confuse us. Give us understanding. The unmistakable drum. Laroye!

Lord of blessings, filled with powerful energy. He only yells. Ruler of the world, that lights the fire of progress.

6.
Water, water that has the understanding. Existing to purify, you exist, you appear. You wipe us clean and feed us so we ripen. I expand and make a promise to her. Woman of the sweet waters you are the old mother of the river.

about

This collection of songs, Ebo, is our humble, imperfect offering to the world. Ebo is the Yoruba word for offering. We offer these songs in reverence to the forces of nature, to the heroes, heroines and ancestors of the African Diaspora as manifested in the Brazilian religious tradition of Candomblé. We offer these songs as students of Orixa.
The encounter of our own lives and musical traditions with reverence towards the spirit of the prayers honoring

A note on translations:
To translate these songs is to encounter the history of the African diaspora. The songs, rooted in Yorubaland, West Africa have been passed orally for hundreds of years and survive in various forms throughout the diaspora. Our encounter with them is through our practice of Candomble, a Brazilian manifestation of the parent religion Ifa. Though this is not a language we speak, this is a language we pray in.

Each of these songs honors a particular Orixa. Orixas are divinities or archetypes, manifested in the dynamic forces of nature. Through Orixa we learn to seek balance between our human nature and higher consciousness. In track notes we describe the energetic qualities of the Orixas honored in this album, as well as what we know of what the songs speak to.
